Thomas Markle, the father of Meghan Markle, will have a prosthetic leg fitted after a life-saving amputation last year. Sharing the news, Thomas Markle Jr. revealed his father had been in rehabilitation in the Philippines, where he lives, since the emergency operation in December 2025.
Thomas Markle was forced to have his left leg amputated

“He’s going through therapy. He’s going through physical rehab,” Thomas Jr said of his dad, per The Mirror. “We’re going to have to get him fitted for a prosthetic here pretty soon.”
The 59-year-old went on to say that “the goal” and “priority” is to get his father “walking again.”
To recap, the Duchess of Sussex’s dad nearly died last year when a blood clot in his left thigh cut off the blood supply to his foot. To save Thomas’ life, doctors amputated his leg below the knee.
This is not the first health emergency Thomas has faced in recent years. He previously had two heart attacks and a stroke.
Next, Thomas Jnr commented on Meghan’s strained relationship with her dad. “It’s just mind-boggling how you could just continue to walk through life and not even give the man a phone call,” he said.
He also suggested the royal should “pay for the best medical care.”
However, in contrast to these allegations, Meghan has reached out to her father. Last year, when Thomas was admitted to hospital, a spokesperson for Meghan told the BBC she had been attempting to make contact for some time.
“Given that a Daily Mail reporter has remained at her father’s bedside throughout, broadcasting each interaction and breaching clear ethical boundaries, it has been exceedingly difficult for the Duchess to contact her father privately, despite her efforts over the past several days,” the Duchess’ spokesperson said. “With the support of reliable and trusted contacts, her correspondence is now safely in his hands.”
