Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Visit Refugee Camp in Jordan

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have visited a refugee camp in Jordan as part of a two-day visit. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced their tour, in partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO), earlier this week. Although the trip is not an official royal engagement, it’s understood that the Royal Family were informed.

Following an invitation from Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO’s Director General, the Duke and Duchess arrived in Amman on Wednesday morning. The first stop of their visit saw them join a discussion hosted by the WHO with individuals from leading bodies, including the United Nations.

Next, Harry and Meghan traveled north to the Za’atari Refugee Camp. There, they toured the camp – where families live in semi-permanent homes – and visited a youth center run by Questscope. The center provides activities, such as art classes and sport sessions, to help engage the young people living in the camp and alleviate mental health issues.

At the center, the Duke and Duchess met with children who use Questscope’s services. They visited a number of classrooms, saw teenage girls playing traditional Arabic instruments, and played a game of football.

The pair’s trip to Jordan marks their first international tour together in 18 months. Since stepping back from life as senior working royals and moving to California in 2020, the Sussexes have carried out a few foreign visits.

In August 2024 they spent four days in Colombia. This included a visit to Bogotá to talk to teenagers about the impact of social media. And, earlier that year, Harry and Meghan visited Nigeria to celebrate 10 years of the Invictus Games.
