Robert De Niro’s State of the Swamp: ‘Betrayed’ by America; Calls for Mass Protests

Robert De Niro is rallying Americans to fight back. The decorated actor made an impassioned plea following Donald Trump’s State of the Union address on Tuesday.

Robert says that he “feels betrayed by my country.” The Cecil B. DeMille Award winner acknowledges that things aren’t perfect, but that he believes that under Donald, the country has lost its values. In his speech called the State of the Swamp, he vowed to fight to restore those values.

Robert De Niro wants to “take our country back” amid Donald Trump’s Presidency

He rarely if ever showed fear on screen, and Robert De Niro isn’t afraid of the President. “If you’re devoted to the constitution and the rule of law. If you want the United States of America to be worthy of your love, be ready to take this to the streets together, and we will take our country back,” vowed Robert.

Robert, like many people, has expressed his dismay over many of Trump’s actions. In an interview with MS Now, he called on people to resist. He has also previously expressed concern that there might be a campaign of retribution against New Yorkers, the city where he was born.

He doesn’t believe Donald will ever leave office. He also worries that the President might bring forth ICE agents to handle matters. The immigration group has faced significant backlash for its actions this year. There have been protests in Minneapolis following the killings of two people.

If something were to happen to Trump, the actor is still worried. That’s because he believes parts of his movement and ideology are still present within some people. He believes they need to find a way to neutralize that.

In 2016, Robert received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from Barack Obama.
