Another Hollywood star is expressing his pessimism towards the state of affairs in his home country. Robert De Niro choked up in a recent interview while talking about how bad he believes things have gotten under Donald Trump.
The Academy Award winner thinks that nobody wins under the President’s rule. He adds that things are for him disintegrating within the nation due to Donald’s actions. Robert has often thanked those working for the President at award shows, raising eyebrows among some people. Robert says that’s only to try to find optimism in the situation, without dividing the country.
Robert De Niro pleaded with Americans to resist President Trump
Robert is making a pitch to Americans about Trump. In an interview with MS Now’s Nicolle Wallace, the actor said, “We have to save this country.” That statement comes from his belief that the President is destroying the nation.
In November, there was speculation that the Raging Bull star might be the next celebrity to leave the US permanently. That’s a path many big-name Americans have recently taken since Donald’s presidential win, including Rosie O’Donnell and Ellen DeGeneres. There were rumors that Robert might relocate to Italy.
As for the state of his country right now, Robert believes things could go “one way or the other.” It’s unclear what that’s in reference to, but it sounds like it’s about the nation’s Democratic values, per sources. “All I know is people have to have to resist, resist, resist,” pleaded Robert.
He may have thanked those working for Trump, but Robert is in no way a supporter of him. Last May, Robert described Donald as a bully. That same month, the accomplished actor was given a special honor. At the Cannes Film Festival, he received the honorary Palme d’Or, celebrating his lengthy career in cinema.
