The long-running medical drama Grey’s Anatomy has paid tribute to Eric Dane, following his death last week, at the age of 53.
Eric played the fan favorite Dr. Mark “McSteamy” Sloan on the series from 2006 to 2012. More recently, the actor has been public with his diagnosis of Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a terminal, degenerative disease. He went public with his diagnosis in April 2025 and died on February 19, less than a year later.

The ABC medical series paid tribute to Eric at the end of Thursday’s episode, with a compilation of Mark Sloan’s most-loved moments on the show. The 60-second reel contained a cover of the Snow Patrol song “Chasing Cars,” which fans will remember as one of the show’s most emotional needle drops. At the end of the tribute, a black and white photo of the actor is shown, with text reading “In loving memory of Eric Dane, 1973-2026.”
Since Eric’s death was announced, a GoFundMe has been set up to support his two daughters, Billie and Georgia. Titled “In Honor of Eric Dane,” the fundraiser was set up by his wife, Rebecca Gayheart. Eric and Rebecca separated in 2018, but remained close, with Rebecca helping to care for the actor following his diagnosis. Moreover, the late Euphoria star praised his partner for helping him with his financial issues. Previously, Eric’s medical insurance would not provide him with nurses, despite his need for 24-hour care. He credited Rebecca for battling the company when they repeatedly denied him necessary treatment.
Since the GoFundMe was launched last week, hundreds of thousands of fans and friends of Eric’s have contributed. As of February 27, the fundraiser has achieved $467,000 of its $500,000 target. Celebrity donors include Hailey Bieber, Euphoria showrunner Sam Levinson, and Brad Falchuk, famous TV director and husband of Gwyneth Paltrow.
