As the only Black cast member, Southern Charm star Venita Aspen has dealt with an onslaught of hateful social media comments.
Venita has taken a step back from social media since joining the show for Season 7. She now has a team that curates her photos and captions, posting them on her behalf. However, the team has strict instructions not to delete any hateful or potentially racist comments from fans.
Venita doesn’t delete the nasty comments for a reason

“I want other people to see that this is what I have to deal with on a day-to-day basis,” she said in an interview with Elite Daily. “People are like, ‘Well, you [signed up for the TV show], so I can say whatever I want.’ How does that even make sense?”
“It’s awful,” she shared. “Some of it is just like, ‘I don’t like what you said.’ That’s fine. You’re entitled to that. But some others are like, ‘You act so white, you should bleach your skin,’ or ‘You want to be the only one, you want to be the token.’ No, I don’t actually.”
“I feel the most secure in everything I’ve said this season,” she continued. “I’m not afraid of what’s to come on the other side.”
Currently in Season 11, Venita has involved herself in the drama between Craig Conover and her BFF Salley Carson. It’s the first time she has waded into the show’s drama, rather than watching from the side.
Meanwhile, now that Venita and Salley are besties again, Venita vowed, “I’ll never give her advice on a man again.”
Southern Charm airs Wednesdays at 9/8c on Bravo. It streams the following day on Peacock.
