Taylor Frankie Paul Loses Custody Temporarily to Ex Dakota Mortensen

Trigger Warning: This article contains a discussion of domestic violence allegations.

The fallout from a leaked tape showing a domestic violence incident between Taylor Frankie Paul and Dakota Mortensen continues. The extremely disturbing footage from 2023 led to Taylor’s season of The Bachelorette being canceled. In the video, Taylor can be seen throwing metal chairs at Dakota while her daughter is present.

Dakota filmed the incident on his phone as it unfolded. Meanwhile, Taylor pleaded guilty to aggravated assault, while other charges from the incident were dropped. However, according to police, both Taylor and Dakota are currently involved in another open “domestic assault investigation.”

PEOPLE reported that Dakota has been issued a temporary restraining order against Taylor, and “temporary custody” of their son, Ever. Dakota filed for the protective order on March 19, and Ever is currently with Dakota.

The next hearing on this matter is April 7, and Taylor will be able to share her side with the court. The protective order reads, “No parent time is allowed until the scheduled hearing,” so Taylor is not able to visit with her son.

Meanwhile, in a statement, Dakota previously said, “I am, unfortunately, used to these baseless claims about me and our relationship, which I categorically deny. I am focusing on our son and his safety, and hope that Taylor will do the same.”

In light of the current investigation, the Utah Division of Child and Family Services ordered both Taylor and Dakota to undergo psychological evaluations. Dakota reportedly called the agency, alleging that Taylor behaved abusively towards Ever. However, Taylor has reportedly denied these allegations.

Meanwhile, Season 5 of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives has been paused, reportedly because of the domestic abuse investigation.

The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives is streaming on Hulu.
