Prince Harry and Meghan Markle faced a blunt swipe from former Prime Minister Liz Truss. She said America could keep them in California. For the Duke of Sussex, the comment added to another tense royal headline. In a March 26 interview, Truss reflected on Queen Elizabeth II and recent palace strains. Then she turned to the duke and the “Suits” alum. Her sharpest line came only after she praised duty as the late Queen’s guiding rule.
Liz Truss has slammed Prince Harry and Meghan Markle
As per the NewsNation report, Katie Pavlich interviewed Truss. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle came up during that conversation. First, the former prime minister revisited her final audience with Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022. Truss said the Queen still wanted “to stand up and greet me properly.” Then she said the late monarch still chose to “do her duty.” She added, “I’m sure if she was still around now, that’s exactly what she would do.” That memory framed her wider view of duty during a large-scale controversy.
However, when the talk shifted to the Sussexes, Truss did not soften. She said their future was “really a matter for the king.” Then she added it was also for “the other members of the royal family.” After that, she delivered the bluntest line. “As far as I’m concerned, you’re very welcome to keep them in California,” she said. Her remark came as reports suggested the couple were weighing future plans. Some also pointed to a possible time in Britain. Even so, Truss made any real decision inside Buckingham Palace. The pair still lived in Los Angeles after stepping back from royal duties.
Meanwhile, Truss had been the last British prime minister to meet Elizabeth. At the same time, she linked her answer to the late Queen’s example. She said, “She would always do what her duty was to the country.” Then she added, “That was her priority.” As a result, the swipe at Harry and Markle read as more than a throwaway line. For now, the California-based couple remained outside royal life. Meanwhile, the palace moved ahead without them.
