Lamar Odom has given fans an update on his sobriety journey. It comes days after the release of a new Netflix documentary, titled Untold: The Death & Life of Lamar Odom.
Through interviews with the former basketballer himself, along with his ex-wife, Khloé Kardashian, the film explores Lamar’s NBA career, personal struggles, and his near-fatal overdose in 2015.
Lamar Odom says he is “completely sober” today
In a chat with SiriusXM’s Page Six Radio this week, Lamar detailed what it was like working on the Netflix documentary … and how his life has further changed since filming wrapped.
“Even the person who shot the documentary was totally different,” he explained. “I’m totally different.”
Lamar went on: “That person was still looking for a marijuana cigarette.”
In contrast, Lamar declared that he is now “completely, completely sober.”
“I don’t even drink alcohol,” he continued.
Sharing the reasons for that, Lamar said that he has educated himself on addiction and its patterns. “If you do your education … if you know addiction, you just suffer from a brain disease, just like cancer or any other disease,” he noted. “I don’t think anyone would wish to have cancer.”
“So me, being educated on disease, the more and more I get educated, the more and more it’s easier for me to, you know, stay sober,” the former basketball player explained. “If you have an addictive mind, the last thing you wanna do is feed it any type of drugs.”
Lamar has been battling addiction for some time, particularly since a near-fatal cocaine overdose in October 2015. The former NBA star was found unresponsive at the Love Ranch brothel in Crystal, Nevada, and was hospitalized in critical condition. He remained in a coma for several days, suffering numerous strokes, heart attacks, and organ failures during that time. He has since made a miraculous recovery and continues to focus on his sobriety.
