Harry Potter Actor Announces Engagement to Comedian Alfie Brown

“Harry Potter” actor Jessie Cave announced her engagement in a post that feels both very grown-up and very on brand for someone fans still remember as Lavender Brown. Cave announced the news on Instagram with a warm photo of her fiancé and her. In the picture, Cave lies on a bed, holding her hand up to show off a ring, while her longtime partner, comedian Alfie Brown, cuddles in close, his head near her shoulder as they pose together. Under the photo, Cave wrote in her caption, “12 years and 4 kids later …. It’s getting serious!!!???”

The “Harry Potter” actor’s engagement announcement drew immediate love in the comments, including messages from fellow comedians and family — this included Fin Taylor writing, “Congrats ! X” and Steve Bugeja adding, “Congrats both!!!” Cave’s sister Bebe also chimed in with, “Love you allllllllll so much.”

Jessie Cave and Alfie Brown have been together for 12 years and share four children, including sons Donnie, Abraham, Becker, and a nine-year-old daughter named Margot. The couple first crossed paths at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2012, and later went on a date set up through a mutual friend, eventually reconnecting months later and welcoming their first child in 2014.

Cave took to Instagram to speak about a difficult period for the couple, describing it as “awful” and saying it “massively affected” her career and self-confidence. Moreover, she wrote, “It was the beginning of a terrible year, two years, actually longer.”

Cave, who first appeared as Lavender Brown in “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” before returning for the “Deathly Hallows” films, has continued working across stage and writing, while also sharing more personal parts of her life online.

For the “Harry Potter” actor and her fiancé, the engagement is like a marker of a decision to keep choosing each other — now with a ring to match the caption’s joke that it’s “getting serious.”
