The Daily Show host Jon Stewart used his latest monologue to dismantle Donald Trump‘s recent foray into divine imagery, mocking both the Jesus photo itself and the president’s subsequent explanation for sharing it. The segment targeted a now-deleted Truth Social post that showed Trump in a scene reminiscent of biblical healing.
Jon Stewart calls out Donald Trump for Jesus photo
During the episode, Jon Stewart introduced the photo, which depicted Donald Trump in a Jesus-like role healing a sick man. The host immediately focused on the patient in it, joking about the uncanny resemblance to himself.
“I know I don’t have the vigor and spunk of my MTV days, but I didn’t know we were here already,” Stewart quipped. “I didn’t realize my look had reached leper territory. From the picture, it looks like it was touch-and-go with me for a while. But thank god, in my time of need, I was surrounded by family.”
The host then addressed the reaction from religious people. According to Stewart, “not everyone in the Christian community took too kindly” to the visual comparison, creating enough noise that Trump was “forced to come up with his own incredibly plausible cover story.”
Elsewhere, when reporters asked about the Jesus photo, Trump claimed it was simply misunderstood in context. “It was me. I did post it, and I thought it was me as a doctor.” Stewart appeared genuinely flummoxed by the low-effort nature of the rebuttal. He questioned whether the president had abandoned any pretense of crafting believable falsehoods.
“Do you even care about lying to us anymore? Is this over?” Stewart said. “Has this relationship gone stale? Your lies used to have a real spark. ‘They’re eating the cats and dogs! Venezuela stole the 2020 election!’ And now the best you’ve got is, ‘Eh, no, I wasn’t Jesus. I’m a doctor!’ You need to go back and find your happy place and fast.” Trump’s Jesus photo has since been deleted, but from conservatives to Democrats, most are making a dig at it.
