Below Deck Med’s Cathy Skinner Faces Backlash After Racially-Insensitive Post

Unfortunately, it appears that Cathy Skinner from Below Deck Mediterranean is suffering from a severe lack of common sense. It’s a plague that has impacted millions, but Cathy’s symptoms were revealed in a recent TikTok post.

She was following that trend where people list their “five horror movies,” but instead of listing actual movies, you list five things you’re scared of in real life. This girl listed “brown men” as one of her horror movies. Yes, really.

The Below Deck Mediterranean star appeared to double down

Shoutout to the r/belowdeck subreddit for capturing the screenshot because Cathy has already deleted it. In the original post, she listed four cringey things that she’s scared of, along with one thing that sounds racist.

The first thing on the list: her camera breaking. The BDM Season 10 star also said that the discontinuing of her eye whitening drops was a horror movie, along with having to “dress casual.” Number four on the list was “ordering my own food at a restaurant.”

Admitting that you can’t order your own food at a restaurant is where this post could have stopped. That’s embarrassing enough, but she kept going. Number five on the list was “brown men,” and immediately, people called her out in the comments for how insane that sounds.

As the backlash started rolling in, Cathy opened her phone a second time and recorded a video of herself downplaying what she said and doubling down on it, all in one breath. Redditors screengrabbed that one, too.

In the video, Cathy explained that she was just trying to list out things that have caused her trauma in the past. She dismissed it as an innocent TikTok trend.

Cathy said, “I don’t want to date a brown man in 2026 because the brown men I’ve dated have given me mental abuse trauma, and I have therapy booked next week.”

Naturally, she proceeded to rely on the same talking point that most people rely on in these situations. She said she has plenty of brown friends!

She continued, “I love brown men, and all my friends are brown, and they will say the same thing, ‘Cathy don’t date another brown man.’”

Cathy deleted both of the videos. However, it should come as no surprise that Below Deck fans are still dragging her for the tone-deaf comments. Let this be a reminder that some thoughts are best kept inside of your head—or in your therapist’s office.

Below Deck Mediterranean is streaming on Peacock.
