Sydney Sweeney Wears Denim Short in American Eagle Ad Amid Backlash

Sydney Sweeney and American Eagle rejoined forces for a new ad that sees the star rocking a new pair of denim shorts. The collaboration comes several months after she and the clothing retailer teamed up for a similar denim-themed campaign promoting jeans. That venture reportedly drew a lot of attention and sparked controversy, particularly for its wordplay, being accused of promoting eugenics and white supremacy. However, it received support amidst the backlash from certain people, including President Donald Trump.

Sydney Sweeney is back with American Eagle ad

The “Euphoria” actress headlined the apparel company’s new ad campaign, Syd for Short: American Eagle Jean Shorts. It has been described by the press release as “the intersection of cool-girl aesthetic and AE’s heritage of self-expression focused on summer’s ‘it’ product: jean shorts.”

The clothing company recently dropped a new video to promote their new denim shorts. The clip begins with Sydney Sweeney inviting viewers to guess whose clothes she was wearing. She asks, “What brand am I wearing?”

It then cuts to a quick montage of the actress’s different shirts for the collaboration, all paired with the same shorts. These include a loose full-sleeve white top with folded cuffs and shirt pockets, a white t-shirt with blue stripes, a white tank top, and a blue denim shirt.

The footage ends with Sweeney confirming the brand to those who guessed correctly. “That one,” she states before naming the shorts and chuckling.

Like the previous “Syd Jean” campaign, “Syd Short,” which includes custom denim styles, supports Crisis Text Line. This is a non-profit entity offering free, 24/7 mental health support to those in need. Additionally, it also includes the butterfly motif honoring domestic violence survivors. Meanwhile, American Eagle will donate 100% of the purchase price to the organization.

Sydney Sweeney shared in a press release, “There’s something timeless about a great pair of jean shorts. They’re simple, but they make you feel confident and put-together without trying too hard.”

The “Anyone But You” star continued, “Crisis Text Line, a cause so close to my heart, has been a part of this partnership from the beginning. I love knowing that when everyone wears these pieces, they are also a part of something meaningful, that directly helps people who need it.”
