Rapper J. Cole puts an end to his pro basketball career in China
Rapper J. Cole ends pro basketball career prospects in China after just one game. The “7 Minute Drill” rapper issued a statement on Tuesday explaining his stance. Cole wrote, “Initially I was scheduled to play in at least 3 games for the Nanjing Monkey Kings of the CBA. The work visa process took way longer than expected, so I was only able to play in one before heading back.”
Further, he continued, “I want to say thank you to the Nanjing club and to the CBA for allowing me to have that incredible experience. Also to my teammates who were mad cool, and who really wanted me to get a bucket! I got to play 8 minutes in one of the top leagues in the world, got a few good looks but wasn’t able to hit one. A couple more games and maybe those shots would have started to fall! Either way I’m fulfilled and grateful!”
He also lavished praise on China, calling the people “kind” and the cities “clean and beautiful.” The “Middle Child” hitmaker admitted he was surprised to learn that so many people in China “rocked” with his music. He revealed he was “blown away” by China’s love for his music. Cole added, “I felt the energy in the game that yall wanted me to hit those shots too! Appreciate it!”
As per Dexerto, it is now the third time the rapper has competed in professional basketball games. Previously, Cole had a fantastic association with the Rwanda Patriots in the Basketball Africa League in 2021. The “Work Out” hitmaker recorded five points, five rebounds, and three assists in three games, but unfortunately had to quit due to family commitments. The following year, Cole played for Scarborough Shooting Stars in the Canadian Elite Basketball League.
