Last December, Jake Paul suffered a major jaw injury during his fight with former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua. He has undergone two surgeries and gave an update about his recovery during a chat with ESPN. While he is currently on a break from professional boxing, he will be the promoter for the MVPW-02 event at the Infosys Theater at Madison Square Garden on April 17.
Jake Paul shares his broken jaw is recovering
ESPN has reported that Jake Paul is planning to return to boxing in 2027. If he sticks to this timeline, it will mark the first time he takes a full year off the ring since he made his debut in 2020. Earlier this week, he told the outlet, “I miss boxing. But the time off definitely refills that energy and helped me miss it. It’s good to miss the sport because I hadn’t missed it in a while since I started.”
Paul further revealed that his jaw is “recovering nicely,” but he does not have clearance to resume boxing again. However, he has started hitting the heavy bag again. “I actually just started getting back into training because hitting the heavy bag creates the vibration through the face and the jaw wasn’t able to heal doing that,” he shared. “But now it’s at a point where I can actually hit the heavy bag. So I’m just slowly getting back into it and trying to stay in shape a little bit.”
The YouTuber-turned-pro boxer will spend this year as a promoter and plans to return as a cruiserweight. For him, the ultimate goal is to become a world champion. While some fans have assumed that Paul’s fight with Joshua might be the former’s last, he sees this as an opportunity to get better.
He said, “I’ve been really pushing it the past six years, almost averaging three fights a year. It’s good to have some time to step back away from the sport and feel like I want to come back into it with a new energy. I’m eager to get back into the ring but I don’t want to rush it.”
