Ever since Meghan Markle and Prince Harry stepped away from their royal duties, their public appearances have carried a significance that extends well beyond the events themselves. Their latest Australian tour is no exception.
While the visit is being positioned as a purpose-led trip centred on community work and advocacy, it has also sparked fresh speculation about tensions within the royal family, particularly when it comes to Prince William, according to a source.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Australia tour could ‘infuriate Prince William,’ per source
On the surface, the Australian tour aligns with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s post-royal identity, featuring public engagements, charity visits, and conversations around mental health. However, the optics have become a talking point in their own right. With Meghan’s fashion choices tied to a shoppable platform and the tour drawing widespread attention, critics have questioned whether the line between philanthropy and personal branding is becoming pretty blurred.
That perception is reflected in claims from unnamed insiders. A source close to the British Royal family spoke to In Touch and explained, “It’s no secret these sorts of tours, where they play themselves up like they’re still working royals, infuriate Prince William, so they’re really poking the bear with this.” The same source further added, “People are already whispering that there will be consequences from his end, so the stakes are very high.”
Alongside the royal tension narrative, there is also a significant financial dimension to the visit. As previously reported by In Touch, the Australia tour could prove highly profitable for the couple. Exit Wealth Advisors’ managing partner Ted Jenkin estimated that they stand to earn around $2 million from speaking engagements and appearances, $3.5 million through sponsorships and brand partnerships, and up to $4.5 million in media and content value.
However, while discussing this, the source stated, “If it doesn’t pay off the way Meghan’s insisting it will, not only will they be left humiliated, they’ll have made things even worse with Harry’s family for nothing.” Meanwhile, the same insider also admitted, “They’re hoping to win people over, but there’s no guarantee it will work. Harry’s trying to keep it light and has joked it’s their ‘cup final,’ but there’s a real feeling that this is make or break.”
