Zayn Malik’s latest medical update feels far from encouraging. The former member of One Direction has had a prolonged stay in hospital due to an unexplained medical problem. This appeared to come out of nowhere, with plenty of mystery surrounding it all.
From his hospital bed, the Brit shared online how he was “heartbroken” that he couldn’t see his adoring fans. This update came on the same day that his new album Konnakol was released. His upcoming performance at Rough Trade Below in New York City appears to be in question.
The singer is “still unexpectedly recovering” amid his new album release
It’s not the news that Zayn or his fans were hoping to hear. While his new album is out, he’s still under examination for an unknown issue. On his Instagram story today, Zayn said that it has been “a long week and am still unexpectedly recovering.” What exactly he’s recovering from remains unclear, though it sounds like a heart condition. In his story, he thanked hospital staff for their care, including doctors, nurses and a “cardiologist.”
Lately, it seems Zayn has not been doing well physically. He apologized to fans during the first night of his Vegas residency in January. Zayn admitted that he wasn’t feeling 100% for that show. A sinus infection and a sore throat were to blame.
While his story suggests he’ll have to cancel some shows, nothing appears to be set in stone on that front. There’s been no confirmation or official update made about his New York show on April 20.
Konnakol serves as the follow-up to his previous album, entitled Room Under the Stairs. It was preceded by the singles Die for Me and Sideways. His new album title comes from the art of performing percussion syllables vocally in South Indian Carnatic music.
