Rebel Wilson Accused of Being a ‘Bully’ in Defamation Case With Another Actress

Charlotte MacInnes’ defamation case against Rebel – who is no stranger to controversy – got underway in Sydney today. She is accusing her The Deb co-star of damaging her character and causing significant reputational damage.

According to Charlotte, Rebel posted false claims online. These allegedly implied she had lied about sexual harassment in exchange for career benefits. The posts were in relation to an alleged incident between Charlotte and Amanda Ghost, a producer on The Deb.

Rebel, meanwhile, alleges that Charlotte and Amanda took a bath together in a Sydney apartment after swimming on Bondi Beach in 2023. She claims that Charlotte later confided in her about being uncomfortable with said producer. According to Rebel, Charlotte later retracted the complaint for professional favors.

But at court on April 20, Rebel was accused of being a “bully” in all this, per Page Six. Charlotte’s lawyer, Sue Chrysanthou, said Rebel “was not a whistleblower who was seeking to protect a young actress.”

Further to that, the lawyer argued that Rebel raised concerns about Charlotte as “leverage.” This supposedly happened during a dispute with producers about The Deb’s “budgets and contracts.”

In response, Rebel’s lawyer, Dauid Sibtain suggested that her co-star had been given a “wealth of prizes and opportunities” following the bathing incident because she “decided to tie herself to Ms Ghost.”

He asked the court to look at “whether Ms MacInnes reported to Ms Wilson that she’d been asked by Ms Ghost to shower and bathe with her and whether she said it made it feel uncomfortable and whether she later changed her story.”

The trial is expected to last nine days.
