‘The Deb’ star, Charlotte MacInnes, has filed an appeal to overturn the decision in her defamation case against Rebel Wilson. The latest appeal marks another chapter in the ongoing lawsuit.
Charlotte MacInnes is seeking a new trial after losing her defamation lawsuit
Charlotte MacInnes, in her new appeal, escalated the controversy behind Wilson’s directorial debut and challenged the decision in her defamation suit.
According to the Sydney Daily Telegraph, the actress has filed an appeal stating that Wilson provided “false evidence” and made “dishonest statements.” A day after the judge ruled against MacInnes in federal court, the Australian actress filed the appeal.
The controversy began when the actress filed a defamation case, stating that Wilson was damaging her reputation. The filing alleged that the actor-director posted a series of Instagram posts to defame the actress.
MacInnes argued that the incident mentioned in the Insta stories never happened the way the director has described and that the fallout has caused harm to her reputation in the industry. Those posts, according to the suit, implied that MacInnes had been sexually harassed by Amanda Ghost, a producer who worked on The Deb and who Wilson had separately sued for breach of contract and fraud.
Wilson has separately filed a lawsuit against Ghost for breach of contract and fraud. In July, Wilson took to her Instagram, claiming that Ghost has been engaging in “inappropriate behavior” with MacInnes and embezzling money from Wilson.
However, MacInnes denied the claims and filed a lawsuit against Wilson, which was ordered in favor of The Deb director.
MacInnes’ appeal seeks an entirely new trial on the case. She is also seeking to overturn the ruling, which requires her to pay legal costs, according to Law Commentary. The legal battle continues to draw attention as they have been dealing with each other publicly. If the appeal succeeds, the matter will return to the court for a new trial. Wilson has not made any public comment on the new appeal.
