A dozen-year wait to get married was ultimately too much for Haylie Duff and Matt Rosenberg to handle. The couple who became engaged in 2014 have ultimately decided not to walk down the aisle and say I do after all. A representative for the pair has confirmed that they are breaking up.
The estranged sister of fellow actress Hilary Duff and Matt had many major life events together. Among the biggest was having two daughters, ages 7 and 10.
The pair are asking “for privacy at this time”
An engagement that lasts well over a decade is surely to leave a few emotional scars. As such, a representative told Page Six that they are seeking “privacy at this time in protection of her young daughters.” They go on to say that their relationship ended “around the first of the year.”
Of all the days to pop the question, Matt did it on April Fools’ Day 2014. Evidently, Haylie didn’t think it was a joke and said yes. After such a long time as soon to be husband and wife naturally many people began asking questions. Haylie said in 2021 that her eldest daughter, Ryan, had asked when the two would finally tie the knot. At the time, Haylie said it felt like they were married in many respects.
It’s estimated to be around seven years since Hilary and Haylie became estranged. Hilary can relate to what Haylie is experiencing, having been divorced once before. The Lizzie McGuire actress compared her divorce from former hockey player Mike Comrie to her estrangement from Haylie. Hilary called the estrangement the “most lonely part” of her life.
Life events continuously got in the way of Haylie and Matt setting a date. The wedding was originally postponed when she was pregnant with her first kid. The pair admitted previously that it’d be different getting married now with two kids.
