Charlize Theron recently opened up about the struggles of parenting pre-teen and teenage daughters, and described them as “hormonal nightmares.” The South African actress is currently busy promoting her upcoming action-thriller, “Apex,” and appeared on Travis and Jason Kelce’s “New Heights” podcast.
Charlize Theron shares daughters are ‘hormonal nightmares’ after age 11
On April 22, Charlize Theron appeared on the Kelce brothers’ “New Heights” podcast and discussed a variety of topics with them. At one point, Jason Kelce, a father of four, asked Theron if she had any advice for him since her daughters are older than his. She jokingly replied, “They just turn into hormonal nightmares. Like, I’m getting my a** handed to me from the moment that I walk into the house. And all these things are gonna serve them so well in life, but I might not make it.”
Theron adopted 14-year-old Jackson in 2012 and her younger daughter, 11, in 2015. Meanwhile, Kelce shares four daughters, Wyatt, 6, Elliotte, 5, Bennett, 3, and Finnley, 1, with wife Kylie Kelce. The three-time Academy Award winner also reflected on the differences between parenting older and younger children.
“Nature does this beautiful thing where you think you’re in your worst place right now, so that you can cope with what you have. But from where I am, I can tell you that you’re in a lovely place and they’re still lovely and sweet,” she said of Kelce’s young family. She further stated, “And then one day, you’re gonna walk into their room around eleven, and they’re gonna just be like, ‘Why did you turn the lights on?!'”
Theron also “promised” Kelce that when his second youngest kid turned 11, he’s “gonna have days where you just get in your car and drive around the block.” Elsewhere, she admitted to worrying that, having grown up as an only child, she struggled to understand the sibling dynamics between her own children.
