Jermaine Jackson could be on the hook for a huge sum of money. The brother of the late singer Michael Jackson is being sued by Rita Butler Barrett for alleged rape.
The accuser claims that Jermaine has essentially ignored her lawsuit and the allegations that accompany it.
After getting the court’s approval to serve the Jackson 5 guitarist. She is asking that the court enter a default judgment in the matter.
The singer is facing a possible $6.5 million default judgment

Jackson appears disinterested in this lawsuit. Legal notices against him were published by the Los Angeles Times long ago, but he has yet to surface. According to court records obtained by TMZ, a judge approved service of these publications last year. The notices ran for four consecutive weeks in August and September.
After that, Rita’s legal team apparently had to do the same thing to serve Jermaine with a statement of damages. The court approved another round of notices in February. Her lawsuit was originally filed in 2023 under California’s Sexual Abuse and Cover Up Accountability Act. She alleges that Jermaine assaulted her in 1988. The suit claims that he violently raped her after showing up at her Encino home one day.
At the time of the alleged incident involving Rita, she claims to have feared for her life, believing she was in imminent danger. Eventually, Jermaine reportedly stopped and left her home. The emotional scars from the supposed incident are said to still leave her traumatized.
For now, Jermaine has not responded to the lawsuit. As such, Rita seeks damages from the court. If it’s granted, Jermaine could be forced to pay $6.5 million. She also wants to recover over $7,100 in legal costs.
Jermaine is far from the first celebrity in the music industry to be sued for alleged sexual assault. In January, it was reported that legendary Spanish singer Julio Iglesias was being investigated on sexual assault allegations.
