Nicole Kidman, who shares two daughters with ex Keith Urban, recently opened up about the one simple “hug” rule she has for them. The Academy Award winner is also mother to Bella, 33, and son Connor, 31. She shares them with her ex-husband, Tom Cruise.
Nicole Kidman says it’s a rule both her daughters hug her every day for two minutes
On April 18, Nicole Kidman attended HISTORYTalks in Philadelphia (via PEOPLE). While speaking to Hoda Kotb at the star-studded event, the Big Little Lies actress shared that the one rule her teenage daughters must follow is to hug their mom for two minutes every day.
“Both my daughters will kill me for saying this, but I’m like, ‘You need to hug [me] for two minutes a day,'” Kidman said. “It releases certain chemicals in the body and everyone needs to be hugged for about two minutes a day. Did you know that?”
While some people find it hard to parent teenagers, Kidman is not one of them. Instead, she considers it “extraordinary.” She explained, “We’re so close, the three of us, we talk about everything. It means sitting on the end of their bed, when they say, ‘Come in here, sit down.’ And you go in, and you’re exhausted, and you sit down and you listen. And I always say, ‘Do you want me to give you advice now, or are you just sort of venting?'”
The Margo Got Money Troubles actress revealed that the girls do not want her advice “90 percent of the time.” She also shared that she hopes to pass down some advice she got from her mother to her kids. Recalling one such piece of advice, she said, “[My mother] told me, ‘Don’t ever let anyone break your spirit.'”
Kidman said that her mother sacrificed her own career for her husband and family, although she was “exceptionally smart.” So, the actress and her sister are now trying to share what they learned from their mother.
