Cynthia Erivo stopped her one-woman theater show and walked off stage on Monday night after spotting a member of the audience filming her. The Wicked star – who ran the London Marathon just one day earlier – is currently starring in Dracula in London’s West End, and she plays all 23 roles!
The Dracula star stopped the show and called out the guest!
In a clip circulating on social media, confused audience members can be seen looking around as the show is paused. An unplanned intermission of Dracula was forced after Cynthia – the literal star of the show – noticed that someone was filming her.
“Not Cynthia Erivo clocking someone filming in the audience during Dracula and stopping the whole show,” the caption on TikTok read, with the poster later adding that the show was stopped for about 10 minutes.
In the comments section, there was a mixed response. Some people praised the actor for upholding theater etiquette, whereas others questioned whether it really matters that much.
“It’s the modern age … get a grip,” one person commented. “It’s never that deep,” added someone else.
“Good on her. Bring back theater etiquette,” someone else said on the flip side of the argument. “If she could see them filming from the stage, they were a distraction to everyone around them.”
“She’s a hard worker, very dedicated to her art,” agreed someone else. “I respect that so much.”
Elsewhere in the comment section, another person pointed out how much effort Cynthia puts into the show. “This woman ran the London Marathon the day before in just over three hours and then is playing 23 different characters for the show 24 hours later,” they said. “I don’t blame her for stopping it because it is that deep.”
