Donald Trump’s 15-Foot Gold Statue at Golf Course Raises Eyebrows

A 15-foot gold-leaf bronzed statue of Donald Trump has been installed at Trump National Doral, getting significant attention as the PGA Tour’s Cadillac Championship began this week. The towering sculpture, positioned prominently at the driving range, has become reportedly an unavoidable talking point for players, staff, and visitors at the Miami resort.

The statue, which reaches 22 feet including its pedestal, was installed earlier this month at the resort (via Golfweek). Created by artist Alan Cottrill, it was commissioned by a cryptocurrency group operating under the name $PATRIOT.

The work shows the president with a raised fist which is reportedly a reference to the July 2024 assassination attempt against Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania. The gold-leaf finish and monumental scale make the sculpture impossible to miss for anyone on the practice grounds.

The timing coincides with the PGA Tour’s return to Doral’s Blue Monster course, which previously hosted a tour event from 1962 to 2016. The venue also held an LIV Golf event in more recent years. This week is its reintroduction to the PGA Tour schedule, and the statue has already eclipsed other pre-tournament talk.

When asked whether he would take a photograph with Donald Trump’s gold statue, PGA Tour player Rickie Fowler responded, “It’s going to make me look smaller than I already am,” Further adding, “What else would you expect?”

Several other tour professionals expressed hesitation. Maverick McNealy, speaking to reporters, said he was unsure whether he would be taking a selfie with the statue this week. He gave a brief assessment, stating, “It’s very tall and very gold.”

The reluctance extended beyond the players. A tournament photographer approached a group of Tour staff members and asked if they wanted a group photo by the statue. The response was a collective, “No.” The photographer then replied, “Ok, I didn’t know you were all so woke.”

Trump’s gold statue is expected to remain a focal point when fans are welcomed on Wednesday for the pro-am event.
