Donald Trump Reacts to Attending Event After WHCD Shooting Incident

Ahead of his first public event since the shooting at the 2026 White House Correspondents’ Dinner, President Donald Trump was asked if he felt safe. The President insisted that he did not even think about this prospect. Trump flew to Florida to deliver the keynote address for the Forum Club of the Palm Beaches’ 50th anniversary dinner.

Following the shooting at the 2026 White House Correspondents’ Dinner, where President Donald Trump was present along with many of the higher-ups in the Trump administration, he was asked how he felt about his safety ahead of his first public event since then.

Peter Doocy from Fox News spoke to the US President ahead of his flight to Florida, where he was slated to give his keynote address for the Forum Club of the Palm Beaches’ 50th anniversary dinner.

“This is going to be your first big public event since somebody tried to kill you on Saturday. Do you feel safe going to something like this today?” Doocy asked. Trump had a surprisingly calm reaction to the question. “I don’t even think about it, Peter,” he said before tapping his microphone with his left hand and walking away.

Doocy later wrote on X, “This is the first time a President has ever high-fived our microphone.”

On April 25, 2026, a gunman, now identified as Cole Tomas Allen, 31, attempted to storm into the White House Correspondents’ Dinner to allegedly assassinate the US President and other senior members of the administration.

Allen has since been arrested and charged. Moreover, per officials, he never made it to the doors of the room where the president and scores of journalists and politicians were gathered. The Secret Service stopped him before that. He shot one officer in the chest, but the officer’s bulletproof jacket saved his life.

On April 30, 2026, Trump joked that he would not wear a bulletproof vest, reasoning, “I don’t know if I can handle looking 20 pounds heavier (via PEOPLE).”
