Joe Rogan expressed disbelief after learning that traders can reportedly pay up to $100,000 a month for faster access to Donald Trump’s Truth Social posts. The podcaster discussed the service with comedian Shane Gillis. Gillis described the setup as “literally insider trading” because traders could react to posts before regular users.

During his latest appearance on “The Joe Rogan Experience,” Gillis explained why the service could give traders an advantage over the wider market. “[Trump’s] selling faster access to his tweets and then you can bet on the markets. It’s literally insider trading,” Gillis said. Rogan then asked, “Wait a minute, is that real? How is that legal?” He also called the $100,000 price “literally crazy.”
Trump Media launched the Truth API on August 1. The service provides customers a licensed, low-latency feed of posts from multiple major accounts on Truth Social, including Trump’s account. Interim CEO Kevin McGurn said more than 10 customers had signed agreements, according to CBS News. Many customers reportedly include high-frequency trading firms, with contracts ranging from $60,000 to $100,000 per month.
The API does not necessarily give customers posts before they appear on Truth Social. Rather, it shares the data straight to their computer systems, allowing automated trading programs to react before human users notice the posts.
Trump frequently posts about tariffs, foreign policy, and other government topics that could impact markets on Truth Social. There has been no finding by a court or regulator that the service is insider trading or violates securities law.
The Intercept and the Freedom of the Press Foundation filed a lawsuit on August 12 in Manhattan federal court. They want the White House to stop making official announcements exclusively through Truth Social while paid customers receive faster access.
The complaint calls the arrangement “profoundly corrupt” and argues that it violates First and Fifth Amendment protections. The lawsuit names Trump and two White House aides, but not Trump Media.
Trump Media denied the claims and stated that paid APIs are still used in media and tech. “Information from President Trump is disseminated by countless platforms and news outlets,” the company said, according to The Associated Press.
Rogan also criticized Trump’s crypto ventures and his sons’ business deals, calling the crypto activity “nuts.” Gillis later said he avoided another photo with Trump at the White House UFC event, adding, “I stood outside in the rain.”
