Kim Kardashian’s long effort to establish a law career has reportedly hit a roadblock, at least for now, as she takes a break from writing the California Bar exam. The reality star has put years into studying, repeatedly promising to keep going. But she is reportedly stepping back from appearing on the exam following her failed attempt last year, marking a notable break in a journey she has spoken about often and taken very seriously.
Kim Kardashian is reportedly taking a break from writing the California Bar exam
TMZ exclusively reported that Kim Kardashian skipped the February 2026 California Bar exam and does not plan to sit for the July exam either, hitting pause on her law career. Moreover, the report claimed that she may wait until 2027 before trying again.
Kardashian has taken the full California Bar exam once, in July 2025, and later confirmed that she did not pass. She shared the news on Instagram, writing, “Well… I’m not a lawyer yet. I just play a very well-dressed one on TV,” adding, “Six years into this law journey, and I’m still all in until I pass the bar.” Kardashian told her fans what she had planned, writing, “No shortcuts, no giving up — just more studying and even more determination.”
Before that, the businesswoman passed the California “baby bar” in 2021 on her fourth attempt. In December, Kardashian spoke to TIME about how much the latest result affected her, stating, “I took a minute to process that, and instantly, when I got my results, I didn’t feel good about it.” She admitted, “I was really uncomfortable and not confident for a while.”
The reported break from the California Bar exam does not appear to mean the end of Kardashian’s law career; it just looks like a pause after a long and tiring period. And after six years of work, her alleged decision may be less surprising than it sounds.
