Summer House star West Wilson‘s issues are mild compared to another family member. His cousin, Dakota Sweeney, is currently charged with the alleged murder of his and West’s 75-year-old step-grandmother, Gayle R. Wilson. Dakota may be ordered to undergo a mental exam to determine his state of mind.
Dakota Sweeney’s mental state is being questioned
Just when you thought West had it bad with the backlash from his recent relationship reveal with Amanda Batula, their friendships breaking down, and the infamous leaked reunion audio.
As it turns out, though, he is not the worst off in his family at the moment.
TMZ reported that West’s cousin Dakota was charged with first-degree murder for the alleged shooting of their step-grandmother Gayle. He has entered a plea of not guilty.
According to the reports, Dakota and Gayle were sitting on the couch when he pulled out a gun and shot her. Dakota had apparently gotten into an argument with her earlier in the same day regarding chores.
This was, incidentally, the night before West filmed the Summer House reunion.
Dakota’s legal team is raising questions about his state of mind. They are unsure if he is fit to stand trial and are requesting a mental exam. His legal team believes that Dakota “may be incapacitated to a point (Dakota) may not be able to understand proceedings against him or help prepare and present his defense at trial.”
They further added that Dakota may not know or appreciate the “nature, quality, or wrongfulness” of his actions. This was further strengthened when Dakota’s behavior in court today showed him sluggish and largely unresponsive.
Summer House airs on Tuesdays at 8/7c on Bravo. You can stream it the next day on Peacock.
