Armed Man in Balaclava Threatened Ex-Prince Andrew at Sandringham: Details

Getting close to a disgraced former royal is apparently not as difficult as it used to be. Former Prince Andrew was reportedly confronted by someone at his new home at Sandringham Estate in Norfolk. The man who now goes by Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was said to be out walking his dogs last night when the alleged suspect approached him, clad in a balaclava and armed.

He allegedly threatened the brother of King Charles, who lost his royal titles last year. Norfolk police arrested the man who was said to be in possession of an offensive weapon.

Security for Andrew is not nearly as strong these days. The Telegraph reports that he was chased by a masked man who threatened him while out for a stroll with his dogs. The suspect apparently sprinted after Andrew’s car. Police were called, and the suspect was apprehended shortly afterwards and taken in for questioning. The incident is not being treated as terror-related.

While Andrew’s alleged involvement with late pedophile Jeffrey Epstein has tarnished his image, the father of two has been subject to threats in the past. Royal historian Andrew Lownie alleged last August that there had been at least two assassination attempts on the then-Prince.

Although he lives on a private estate owned by the King, Andrew may be more vulnerable to attacks nowadays. In 2022, he lost his state-funded police protection after his title of His Royal Highness was revoked. Three years later, all his formal royal titles were eliminated.

Statements following Wednesday’s incident were given by Andrew, his protection officer and witnesses. Currently, the ex-Prince is being protected by the security his brother, Charles, put in place for him after Charles inherited it from his late mother, Queen Elizabeth.

Sandringham has limited public access, with Andrew’s new home sitting on a 20,000-acre estate. Andrew pays for the private security provided to him from his allowance to cover his living expenses at Marsh Farm. He was arrested in February on suspicion of misconduct while in public office.
