As per the Prince and Princess of Wales YouTube clip, Prince William opened with a light joke. He said he had not realized “how many times David likes to take his shirt off” while filming. Then, he moved into the formal tribute, calling it “a rare privilege” to celebrate “a century of life.” He said Attenborough had transformed how people saw “the only home that we have, planet Earth.” The Prince William broadcaster moment then became a direct tribute to public service.

William also connected Sir David Attenborough’s 100th birthday to his children’s understanding of nature. He said, “Like millions across the world, my children have grown up with your incredible storytelling.” The royal added that those stories shaped their view of the planet. He also said they built “their belief that it is something worth fighting for.” According to PEOPLE, George, Charlotte, and Louis previously appeared in a 2020 video asking Attenborough questions about nature.

The speech also placed Attenborough beside William’s environmental work. The Prince of Wales said the broadcaster’s friendship had been “profound.” He added, “You have strengthened my own determination to act.” William noted that Attenborough supported the Earthshot Prize, which champions climate and conservation solutions. He said that work tried to turn inspiration into action.

Meanwhile, Attenborough was among the original Earthshot Prize council members. William closed the Sir David Attenborough 100th birthday tribute by thanking him for his “wisdom,” “kindness,” and “dedication.” He said Attenborough’s legacy was not only the films people treasured. Instead, it was “the generations you have inspired.”
