Elon Musk once again criticized Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film “The Odyssey.” This comes after a new casting report was published in a Time magazine profile. The report confirmed Lupita Nyong’o would play the dual roles of Helen of Troy and Clytemnestra in the movie. The billionaire has repeatedly posted about Nyong’o’s casting on X over the past several months.
Elon Musk seems to have an odd fixation on Christopher Nolan‘s The Odyssey cast
The online debate began earlier this year after several users on X slammed Lupita Nyong’o’s rumored casting as Helen of Troy. Some users questioned the historical accuracy of the role. This later pulled Elon Musk into the conversation. Replying to one post about the casting, Musk wrote that Christopher Nolan had “lost his integrity” if reports about Nyong’o’s role were true.
The discussion resurfaced this week after newer casting reports linked Nyong’o to both Helen of Troy and Clytemnestra in the film. According to Variety, Musk later added that Nolan made the casting decision because “he wants the awards.”
Political commentator Matt Walsh also reacted to the casting on X while criticizing Nolan’s decision. Walsh wrote, “Not one person on the planet actually thinks that Lupita Nyong’o is ‘the most beautiful woman in the world.’ But Christopher Nolan knows that he would be called a racist if he gave ‘the most beautiful woman’ role to a white woman. Nolan is technically talented but a coward.”
The comments triggered another round of reactions online. Following that, several users defended Nyong’o and bashed both Musk and Walsh over the remarks. Even Elliot Page’s rumored Achilles casting did not escape Musk’s criticism. The SpaceX founder reacted to it by writing on X that it was “one of the dumbest and most twisted things I’ve ever heard.”
Nolan has not publicly responded to the backlash or Musk’s comments as of now. Nyong’o was first announced as part of “The Odyssey” cast in 2024. Although her exact role remained unconfirmed for months. The adaptation of Homer’s epic poem is currently scheduled to be released in July 2026.
