We know there can be dangers in Survivor, but rarely to this level. Survivor Greece’s production company AcunMedya released a statement via the Toronto Sun about what happened. It says that the 21-year-old castaway, Stavros Floros, was “accidentally struck” by a boat while spearfishing on the island. The statement adds that Stavros was “diving without a surface marker buoy in an area frequented by tourist vessels.”

A long time ago, the American version of Survivor had a situation which could have been disastrous. While filming Season 3 of Survivor Africa in the early 2000s, Mark Burnett says a lion and an antelope got through the fence where the contestants were. Fortunately, they just ran out the other side and didn’t harm any castaways.

Stavros is in the hospital in stable condition. AcunMedya went on to say that he is “out of danger.” The network has promised to contribute to his treatment. He was immediately attended to after the incident.

While no one US contestants have suffered injuries quite this bad, there have been plenty of scary moments on the show. Mike Skupin was medically evacuated in Season 2 after burning his hands in the fire. In 2013, a French version based on Survivor, known as Koh-Lanta drew backlash after contestant Gérald Babin collapsed and died on day one of production in Cambodia.
