Hayden Panettiere has not had the easiest life, having experienced postnatal depression as well as addiction. But fans of the star might be surprised to learn that the relationship Hayden has with her mother is perhaps the most difficult issue she has faced. This is something she goes into detail about in her new memoir.
The actress has released her new memoir
In This Is Me: A Reckoning, Hayden recalls key moments in her life. These include the birth of her daughter, the death of her brother, and her battle with alcohol and opioid addiction. She also opens up about her fractured relationship with her mom, fellow actor Lesley Vogel.
Writing in her memoir, Hayden alleged that her mom’s management of her as a child star contributed to the difficulties she faced later in life. She also accused her mother of having anger issues and being invested in her only for financial gain.
“Mom was a perfectionist, and she knew what I was capable of. She expected the best from me,” Hayden said in the book of an alleged incident after an audition. “Now she was disappointed in me, and that was a fate worse than death.”
Decades on, the pair’s relationship has seemingly not improved. Ahead of Hayden’s memoir being released, a source told the Daily Mail that things between them are “worse than anyone knows.”
“Their relationship has been going downhill for about two years now,” the insider described.
This is not the first time Hayden has opened up about the strain with her mom. Most recently, she said “everything was business” between them.
“I became the confidant and the assistant and the therapist and the shoulder to cry on and everything but her child,” she revealed on On Purpose with Jay Shetty.
