Meghan McCain isn’t holding back when it comes to Megyn Kelly’s recent commentary. The former View co-host used her podcast this week to criticize Kelly’s remarks about celebrity appearances, accusing the broadcaster of focusing on what she called “bottom of the barrel” content.
The criticism came during a recent episode of ”Citizen McCain,” where Meghan reflected on her own experiences with public scrutiny and explained why discussions centered on women’s bodies continue to frustrate her.
Meghan McCain blasts Megyn Kelly over her “bottom of the barrel” content
McCain kicked off the conversation by sharing her long-standing discomfort with body shaming. “One thing that gets me really, really, really upset in general is body shaming,” she said. The political commentator noted that she has faced criticism about her appearance throughout much of her public career and recalled being told she was “too plus-sized” for television roles early on.
The discussion centered on clips from Kelly’s SiriusXM program. In one segment, Kelly criticized actress Lena Dunham’s appearance during a Met Gala fashion review, making remarks about the Girls creator’s weight and overall look.
McCain also highlighted separate comments Kelly made about Demi Moore during the Cannes Film Festival. Kelly described Moore as “shockingly thin” and suggested the actress looked unhealthy, as per RadarOnline.com.
For McCain, the contradiction was hard to ignore. “I don’t know what body is acceptable to Megyn Kelly because both of these women are being body-shamed,” she said. “One for being too thin and one for being too fat.”
The daughter of late Senator John McCain argued that women often face criticism regardless of their appearance and questioned why conversations about celebrity bodies continue to generate attention. “There’s a lot going on in the world,” she said.
McCain went on to urge Kelly to “find better content” instead of focusing on physical appearance. Her co-host, Miranda Wilkins, agreed and questioned what impact that type of commentary could have on younger audiences. Wilkins called the discussion “quite frankly disgusting,” while McCain responded, “Totally agree.”
