A lawsuit connected to the tragic death of Drakeo the Ruler is facing another legal challenge. Snoop Dogg’s company has asked a judge to dismiss the wrongful death claims against it, arguing it had no role in organizing or operating the festival where the rapper was fatally stabbed.
The request comes nearly five years after Drakeo, whose real name was Darrell Caldwell, was killed backstage at the Once Upon a Time in L.A. festival in December 2021.
Snoop Dogg’s business is seeking the dismissal of the late Drakeo the Ruler’s lawsuit
According to court filings obtained by TMZ, Snoop Dogg’s LLC has filed a motion for summary judgment, seeking to remove itself from the lawsuit brought by Drakeo’s brother.
In a declaration submitted to the court, Snoop’s company argued that its involvement with the festival began and ended with the rapper’s performance. The filing states that the company did not organize the event, hire security, oversee operations, or control the venue where the stabbing occurred.
The motion further claims the company never signed a lease or licensing agreement related to the festival and held no ownership interest in Exposition Park, the Los Angeles venue where the attack took place.
Snoop’s attorneys also maintained that no representatives from the company witnessed the incident or had any connection to the individuals responsible for Drakeo’s death.
The lawsuit was originally filed in 2022 and alleged that security measures at the festival were inadequate. Drakeo’s family named multiple defendants in the complaint, including event promoter Live Nation and several other entities connected to the venue and production of the concert.
The legal net was cast widely, and some defendants have already seen developments in their favor. Earlier this month, Los Angeles Football Club successfully obtained summary judgment in the case.
While the court battle continues, Snoop remains active outside the courtroom. The rapper is preparing for a role in “The Faith of Long Beach,” an upcoming boxing drama from director Eric Amadio, as per Deadline. The film follows a young fighter attempting to overcome a difficult past while pursuing a career in professional boxing.
