The granddaughter of an infamous tyrant won over reality TV fans in Italy. Alessandra Mussolini’s grandfather, Benito, ruled Italy for decades and founded fascism, while aligning himself with Adolf Hitler during World War II. On Wednesday Celebrity Big Brother Italy aired its finale, with Alessandra among the famous faces in the mix to win.
Alessandra chose to go on the show despite her family’s insistence that she shouldn’t. There was concern that, because of her infamous name, she might get a lot of bad press. Italians eventually turned on her grandfather, killing him via firing squad on April 28, 1945.

Against all the odds, Alessandra came out on top in the latest edition of Celebrity Big Brother Italy claiming the €100,000. She beat out 15 others to reach the top.
Italian media had described her as “bossy, over the top, irresistible and strong-willed.” Those were evidently qualities the public in Italy appreciated, as she garnered 56% of the final votes.
Speaking to Italian outlet Leggo, Alessandra said her family’s opposition was a huge motivator for her. “Every time people tell me, ‘don’t do it, don’t do it, don’t do it,’ I instantly think: ‘I’ll do it now,” said Alessandra.
Alessandra said she had a deep appreciation for her life afterwards. She says that when stripped of things like your phone, it’s an opportunity to “reflect, talk deeply with others, and this helps you rediscover inner truths.”
In the past, she’s generated her share of controversy. She’s joined a handful of different political parties. Alessandra even signed pictures of her controversial grandfather. She and actor Jim Carrey had an online feud in March 2019. This occurred after the Canadian-born comedian posted a political cartoon on X of Benito’s 1945 execution.
Alessandra should hope not to follow in the footsteps of some other Celebrity Big Brother winners who have been in the spotlight for the wrong reasons of late. Gary Busey won Celebrity Big Brother UK in 2014. He pleaded guilty to a sex crime charge last August.
