Ariana Grande may have been cheering from afar. But she wasn’t in the audience when brother Frankie Grande made his Broadway debut in “Titanique.” The pop superstar’s absence quickly became a talking point, especially because she had publicly supported the show just weeks earlier.
Now, insiders are offering a little more context about why the singer skipped one of the biggest nights of her brother’s career.
Frankie Grande seemingly understands Ariana is deep in practice for her upcoming tour
Frankie recently stepped into the role of Victor Garber/Luigi in Broadway’s delightfully over-the-top Titanique. The musical, which reimagines Titanic through the lens of Céline Dion, has become a fan favorite thanks to its campy humor and powerhouse vocals. When opening night arrived, however, Ariana was nowhere to be seen.
According to sources cited by RadarOnline, the singer was busy preparing for her upcoming tour. That’s the explanation publicly circulating. Behind the scenes, some insiders aren’t entirely convinced scheduling was the only factor.
“She runs that tour,” one source claimed. “If Ariana wanted the night off, she could have taken it. This was a choice.”
The insider added that Frankie had mixed feelings about the situation. On one hand, he wanted the spotlight to remain firmly on his own Broadway achievement. On the other hand, Ariana’s presence would have brought an entirely different level of media attention.
“He wanted it to be about him… but he also wanted her there,” the source said. “Those two things cannot exist at the same time.” Despite any disappointment, sources say Frankie understood the circumstances, even if it stung a little.
The siblings have appeared supportive of each other’s careers for years. In fact, Ariana recently attended a performance of Titanique and couldn’t stop praising it afterwards. “The best show ever,” she commented on the musical’s social media page. She also called the production “perfect” on Instagram and singled out Frankie and several cast members for praise. That’s why her absence at the Broadway premiere raised eyebrows. Fans had recently seen her enthusiastically promoting the show online.
