Guthrie stated that Melvin was going on a week-long vacation, and his replacement will co-host from the following Monday.

On April 9, Savannah Guthrie and Craig Melvin announced that he will be taking a week-long break from the anchor desk beginning on April 13 (via HELLO). Guthrie said, “Craig, you are heading off on a very well-deserved vacation. You’ve been holding it down here for a long time. So, you’re going to have a spring break. I’m excited.”
Guthrie then revealed the name of the new host, saying, “And, we’re going to try a new host here. Her name is Hoda. And she’s going to fill in for you next week. So that will be fun, too.” Melvin responded, “Alright. I won’t see you. I won’t turn on the TV, but it’ll be fun.” Guthrie agreed that he should not be watching the show on his vacation.
On April 20, the 46-year-old took to Instagram to share a carousel of photos. In the snaps, he posed to show his “end of vacation” stubble. Under the post, he wrote, “My daughter wants me to post what I look like at the end of vacation week with no shaving and hair care. She’s not on IG bc she’s so young but seems to understand social media shaming nonetheless. Back to work tomorrow. See you there.”
Melvin shares 9-year-old daughter Sybil and 12-year-old Delano with his wife and fellow broadcaster Lindsay Czarniak. On April 13, he had given a brief glimpse into the family’s holiday in a post with the caption, “Out of office for a minute. My daughter thought this was a good idea.” The official Instagram page for TODAY commented, “OOO looks good on you!?”
