Amid the emotional finale of his late-night run, Stephen Colbert was met with a heartfelt message from Joe Biden honoring his legacy and impact.

In its closing weeks, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert has brought familiar faces back to the Ed Sullivan Theater.

From original Late Show host David Letterman to Daily Show alum Jon Stewart, a parade of iconic guests returned to sit with Colbert one last time in the final weeks. Former President Barack Obama, Tom Hanks, Sally Field, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and a reunited “Strike Force Five” also joined him, rounding out the farewell lineup.

Social media lit up as well, with former guests and fellow late-night peers sharing heartfelt farewells to Colbert and his Late Show team. Among them was former U.S. President Joe Biden, who marked the moment with a personal tribute on Instagram. His post featured a photo with Colbert alongside a heartfelt caption.

“There aren’t many who can make people think and laugh at the same time. For years, Stephen brought wit, heart, and honesty to late night television. America could always count on a laugh — and sometimes a needed reality check. Congrats on an incredible run, my friend,” it read.

The post quickly lit up with fan reactions, with one reading, “The kindness. The decency.” “A fine pair of gentlemen right there,” commented an admirer. “Two of the greatest. Thank you both for your service to the truth,” wrote yet another fan.

The series finale of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert went out singing, as Sir Paul McCartney, Jon Batiste, Elvis Costello, and Louis Cato led a jubilant performance of “Hello, Goodbye.”
