The Survivor 50 finale had its share of jaw-dropping moments that few could have predicted. One of the subtle moments captured in the early going of Wednesday’s episode saw a jury member appearing to give the “middle finger,” as noted by somebody online.
There was a lot of tension this season between contestants, many of whom had a personality clash. One of the self-proclaimed most honorable contestants in the show’s history is getting some backlash online.
Did Benjamin “Coach” Wade give Tiffany Ervin the middle finger?
The conduct that Benjamin “Coach” Wade constantly preaches about is under the microscope yet again. In his four seasons on Survivor, the Dragon Slayer has talked about honor, loyalty and integrity as ways that he lives his life and how he plays the game.
As we’ve seen many times, his personality rubbed people the wrong way in Season 50. He and Tiffany Ervin were playing on the same season for the first time and notably butted heads.
After Tiffany had her torch snuffed and left the tribal council area, Coach was seen scratching his face, using his middle finger. Whether or not he did it intentionally is up for debate.
He and Tiffany were at odds many times this season. During the season they had an intense argument over whether he had voted for her. Coach lied about that to her. At one point she referred to him as a “self-righteous hypocrite.”
We’ve seen many contestants flip others off during tribal councils on the show in the past. At the Survivor: Gabon final tribal, Jessica “Sugar” Kiper gave Corinne Kaplan the finger after she took a shot at her dead father. Kass McQuillen gave the finger to Trish Hegarty as she left Survivor: Cagayan. Andrew Savage flipped off Abi-Maria Gomes on his way out of Second Chances after she told him, “You made it to the jury.”
Outside of his stories and haikus, Coach had drawn other controversy this season. In April, he shut down claims of a pre-game MAGA alliance.
