Kylie Kelce on raising daughters with boundaries at home: ‘Our kids know the word no’

Kylie Kelce often shares glimpses into her parenthood journey as a mother of four. In a new interview with PEOPLE, she revealed that her kids are used to hearing “no” from their parents. “Our kids know the word no. They respect the word no most days,” she shared. Another word that is popular in the Kelce household is “try.”

For things the Kelce couple finds slightly more difficult, such as potty training or trying new foods, they try it before deciding if they would like to continue. Kelce said, “I like the idea of, ‘let’s try this.” She also shared that trying is something the family does a lot at the dinner table.

“‘I know you might not think you like that, but maybe just try it.’ We’re huge on that,” she added. “My girls will say all the time, ‘You can try it. You have to try it. If you don’t like it, you don’t have to eat it.’ So we try at the dinner table.”

Kelce continued to say that the concept of trying has changed her kids’ mindsets about things that they find a little too intimidating. “Instead of ‘I can’t do that,’ it’s always a ‘Let’s try.’ Because if it goes well, great, and if it doesn’t, we can always try again later,” she said.

She told PEOPLE that “we’re big triers in our house, because much like in coaching, I don’t like the word ‘can’t.'” She shared, “And they know that, so then we try. It makes things feel a little more positive because it’s like, I’m gonna try. If I do it, great. If I don’t, I can always try again later.”
