The United States might be in its weirdest era yet, and Alan Cumming is making his thoughts extremely clear. He’s not here for it. The Scottish-born host of The Traitors has lived in New York City for over two decades, and like many folks living in the county, he’s deeply disappointed about the direction things are headed.
The actor is rallying against Donald Trump’s leadership

Although America’s problems started long before Donald Trump came into power, Alan explained to the Radio Times in a recent interview how this latest regime feels like a turning point.
Alan said, “Of course, there are kind people in America, and I live in New York, which is a different kettle of fish to the rest of America, but the government … It is a fascist country, and I’m paying taxes to it. It’s horrible.”
Unfortunately, he’s going to have to keep paying those taxes, but the Emmy Award-winning host admitted to feeling a false sense of security when Barack Obama was president. Everything felt normal, and that made it easy to ignore the problems bubbling under the surface.
Alan explained, “We all thought America was in a much better state than it actually was, because it’s always just teetering on the brink of awfulness.”
Now that we’re past the point of awfulness, Alan thinks that other world leaders should take stronger stances against Trump. He thinks they need to “demand decency,” and Americans should reject the “Make America Great Again” agenda.
Alan said, “Make America like the 1950s again, more like. When black people would serve you, you could do whatever you liked, and anyone who you didn’t like, you would get the boys to duff them up. That’s what they want. That’s what they’re creating.”
He continued, “It’s not a new thing for people to be so bigoted and intolerant. It always has been like that. It’s just been suppressed. What’s shocking now is how public and blatant it is and how comfortable people feel agreeing with it.”
We’ve still got two and a half years left of Trump’s second term, but who’s counting? In the meantime, Alan is keeping himself busy over in Scotland, filming back-to-back seasons of The Traitors. He previously teased that Trump might make a good contestant.
The Traitors is streaming on Peacock.
