Meghan Markle‘s recent wedding anniversary tribute to Prince Harry may have looked like a heartfelt celebration of their marriage. However, royal observers believe the carefully curated photos revealed something far more personal happening behind the scenes. To mark eight years of marriage, Markle shared a collection of previously unseen photographs from the couple’s 2018 royal wedding celebrations on Instagram. But one detail immediately caught royal watchers’ attention: King Charles III appeared to be the only senior royal featured in the tribute.
Meghan Markle knows ‘having a good relationship with’ King Charles can aid Prince Harry marriage, per expert
According to royal author Ingrid Seward, Meghan Markle’s choice of including King Charles in her anniversary post likely carried significant meaning. Speaking about the anniversary posts, Seward told the Mirror that Markle’s selections were intentional. “Meghan doesn’t do anything without purpose,” Seward claimed while discussing the images.
Moreover, the expert suggested that the posts appeared to quietly reinforce the idea that Harry and his wife still consider themselves connected to the royal family despite years of public fallout. “The message is, ‘We’re still very much part of your family,’” Seward explained.
She also suggested the couple may not have fully realized how isolated they would become after stepping away from royal duties in 2020 and later participating in major public interviews and projects criticizing royal life.
Long before tensions grew between the Sussexes and the royal family, Markle reportedly shared a close relationship with Charles. The bond became especially visible ahead of the royal wedding in May 2018, when the king stepped in to walk Markle down the aisle at St George’s Chapel after her father, Thomas Markle Sr., withdrew from attending due to health issues. At the time, Kensington Palace said Charles was “pleased” to welcome her into the royal family in that role.
The royal expert alleged Markle understands that Charles “is the number one man” in the royal family. Seward also claimed the duchess knows that “having a good relationship with her father-in-law” could help strengthen her marriage to Harry, if that is what he wants.
