Paris Jackson is redefining what it means to honor her father’s memory. The singer-songwriter recently opened up about her relationship with late pop icon Michael Jackson and shared how her perspective has changed over the years. While growing up in the spotlight, Paris once felt pressure to publicly express her love and grief. Now, she says she has found peace in keeping parts of that bond private.
Paris Jackson says she’s in ‘beautiful’ place with late dad Michael and is ‘allowed’ to be private
During an appearance on Jack Osbourne’s “Trying Not to Die” podcast, Paris admitted she used to feel like she “owed it to people” to share everything about her personal life. That mindset included posting tributes to dad Michael on birthdays, Father’s Day, and anniversaries. Over time, however, her feelings shifted.
“I don’t really feel like any of us owe anyone anything,” she explained. The 28-year-old said she has learned she can have a personal relationship with her father’s memory without sharing every part of it online.
Paris described reaching “the most beautiful relationship ever” with her late dad and said she finally feels “allowed” to keep it private. “I’m in a very beautiful spot with my dad, and I love that,” she shared. “It’s no one’s business.”
Michael Jackson’s daughter also stressed that she does not want expressions of love to feel performative. She explained that she knew Michael personally and deeply. “That was my best friend,” she said.
Elsewhere in the interview, Paris addressed assumptions that she grew up as a “spoiled brat.” She pushed back against that narrative and credited her father for teaching her the value of hard work. She said Michael emphasized earning things and developing discipline from a young age.
The model also reflected on her approach to work and productivity. “I’m like a shark,” she said. “If I stop moving, I’ll die.” For Paris, growth seems to have brought clarity. She now embraces privacy and protects the relationship that matters most to her in her own way.
