Ex-Prince Andrew allegedly had concerns about Prince Harry’s relationship with Meghan Markle from the very beginning. A royal author now claims the former Duke of York openly questioned the match and even warned his nephew before the couple married.
The allegation has resurfaced as a new discussion surrounding the British royal family’s internal tensions. According to the author, Andrew was among several royals who reportedly doubted the relationship would succeed.
Ex-Prince Andrew warned Prince Harry marrying Meghan Markle, per author
Ex-Prince Andrew reportedly did not hide his feelings about Prince Harry’s relationship with Meghan Markle, according to royal biographer Andrew Lownie.
The author recently revisited the topic while discussing his updated book, “Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York.” Speaking on “The Megyn Kelly Show” on Wednesday, Lownie claimed that Andrew was among the first royals to raise concerns about the future Duchess of Sussex. According to him, the former Duke of York questioned whether Harry had done enough “due diligence” before committing to the relationship.
Lownie further claimed that Andrew’s concerns went beyond private doubts. As per the author, the royal allegedly “warned” Harry that the marriage would not stand the test of time. “Andrew was one of the people who was saying that,” Lownie said while discussing the relationship. He also alleged that Andrew “was a little bit more vocal about it than some of the others.”
Furthermore, the biographer suggested that Andrew’s reported warning reflected a broader sentiment among some royal insiders at the time. “All the gossip in the royal household was about how unsuitable Meghan was and [how] it would all end in tears,” Lownie claimed. “Everyone could see this was a disaster waiting to happen.”
Notably, the reported “warning” is said to have contributed to a strained relationship between Harry and his uncle. Although details surrounding their disagreements remain disputed, the author alleged that Andrew’s comments were not well received by the prince.
