Donald Trump reacts after artists back out of Freedom 250 event
President Donald Trump reacted on Truth Social after multiple artists withdrew from his Freedom 250 concert series.
Trump offered to replace the departing performers by taking the stage himself. He wrote, “I am thinking about bringing the Number One Attraction anywhere in the World, the man who gets much larger audiences than Elvis in his prime, and he does so without a guitar.” He also called the withdrawing acts “highly paid, Third Rate ‘Artists.'”
The president further proposed converting the event into a political rally. He wrote, “I am ordering my Representatives to look at the feasibility of doing an AMERICA IS BACK Rally on Wednesday, Washington, D.C., same time, same location. Only Great Patriots invited.”
Five artists initially dropped from the Great American State Fair lineup on the National Mall. Martina McBride, the Commodores, Young MC, Bret Michaels, and Morris Day all cited concerns. Several performers said organizers had misrepresented the event as nonpartisan (via Rolling Stone).
McBride said the opportunity “turned out to be misleading.” Michaels stated the show “evolved into something much more divisive than what I agreed to be a part of.” He also raised unspecified safety concerns for himself, his crew, and fans.
Young MC told VIBE he had no idea it was a Trump-backed event. He said, “I was told one thing and then it was a bait-and-switch.” The Commodores added, “Our music has always been our voice and we choose not to publicly affiliate with any single political party.”
Freedom 250, a self-described nonpartisan organization, originally announced the lineup on May 27. Keith Krach, a Trump appointee, organized the series. Vanilla Ice and Fab Morvan of Milli Vanilli confirmed they still plan to perform at the event.
