Karamo Brown Says Plastic Surgery Was Botched and Left Him in Chronic Pain

Queer Eye alum Karamo Brown recently spoke about his plastic surgery journey. His procedure was botched, which resulted in constant pain and suffering.

Karamo was self-conscious about his appearance after the surgery. This occurred during his NBC daytime talk show in 2022 and while filming Queer Eye.

In a People cover story interview, Karamo revealed how a 2021 buccal fat removal procedure caused scar tissue buildup. This blocked his saliva from draining, causing constant pain. He had the procedure after a 70-pound weight gain during COVID.

“I was a big boy, and everyone online liked to tell me how much of a big boy I was,” he says. “So, I was like, ‘Okay, maybe if I slim out my face, I’ll be cute.’ It turned into a year-and-a-half of pain.”

There was much speculation about his plastic surgery. “For years, people have been like, ‘Karamo’s had plastic surgery. He has so much filler in his face,'” he explained. “I was like, ‘You know what? I can’t say anything because you can’t get into fights with the trolls.’ But I was suffering for years in pain and no one knew.”

After the surgery, the saliva buildup in Karamo’s cheeks was hardened by scar tissue. “There’d be times you’d see me smile, and it was tight,” he says. “My cheeks would be big because they were full of saliva, full of scar tissue. I was in the worst pain.”

The former talk show host eventually stopped eating, which minimized the scar tissue’s appearance. To eliminate the pain, Karamo recently had his saliva glands repaired and scar tissue removed from his cheeks. Now he’s able to smile normally and feel better overall. During this procedure, he also underwent a lower blepharoplasty to eliminate undereye bags.

He hopes sharing his experience can help others. “I was fortunate enough to have the resources to find somebody who could help me, but I want to tell people that you don’t have to suffer alone,” Karamo said. “I wish I would have told people what I was going through and not allowed myself to just stay quiet.”
