Kate Middleton Sparks US Visit Rumors With Telling Move

Recent appearances featuring American designer labels have fueled speculation that Kate Middleton could be preparing for a visit to the United States, and the clues may be hanging in the Princess of Wales’ closet. Although there is no official confirmation, the unusual fashion choices have prompted some media outlets to look for meaning behind the looks.

Kate Middleton’s recent fashion choices sparks US visit rumors

The rumors gained momentum after Kate Middleton attended a reception celebrating the 125th anniversary of Cancer Research United Kingdom on Tuesday. For the occasion, the Princess of Wales wore a red silk dress by Rodarte, a Los Angeles-based label founded by sisters Kate and Laura Mulleavy. As per PEOPLE, it marked the first time the royal had publicly worn the American fashion brand.

On its own, the fashion choice may not have generated much attention. However, according to the outlet’s report, it was the second time in a matter of weeks that Middleton had opted for an American designer. During a visit to Italy in May, she debuted a skirt by California-based designer Jenni Kayne, another reported first for the royal. The back-to-back appearances have led to questions about whether the choices could be a subtle signal of future plans.

Middleton is widely known for using fashion diplomatically. During engagements in the U.K., she frequently champions British designers. When traveling overseas, she often incorporates labels connected to the country she is visiting. Because of that history, some observers have speculated that her recent embrace of American brands could hint at an upcoming visit to the U.S.

That said, a future trip to the States would not be unprecedented. Prince William and Middleton last visited the country together in 2022 for the Earthshot Prize Awards in Boston, while William returned solo to New York City in 2023 for a series of environmental engagements. Some royal watchers have also pointed to William’s well-known passion for soccer as a possible reason the couple could attend events connected to the upcoming FIFA World Cup.
