Prince William Reveals How He Plans to Talk Periods With His Daughter

Prince William recently acknowledged period stigma during his SXSW London Festival visit by giving an honest response to how he is going to talk about periods with his daughter, Princess Charlotte. The Prince of Wales revealed his plan, saying he would take the “help” of his wife, Kate Middleton, to have this important conversation with their daughter, leaving the panelists impressed with his reply.

Prince William recently took part in a discussion on young people’s issues as part of the SXSW London Festival on June 3. He was joined by two Diana Award legacy winners for the panel, one of whom was Vivi Lin, the founder of the NGO “With Red,” who asked him a really important question: his plans to “talk” period with his daughter, Princess Charlotte. Lin even revealed that the honest answer of the Prince of Wales really left her impressed.

“He answered genuinely and smiled and said, ‘This is a topic I am not familiar with,’ and it was really lovely,” she told PEOPLE. “But he said he knows it is going to be a conversation that he would need to have in the future. He said he will try to do so with the help of his wife.”

Lin then continued that the future monarch “acknowledged there is still menstrual stigma across the world and a lot of people don’t know about it.” And William’s awareness of needing “the help” of Kate Middleton to “talk” to their daughter, the NGO funder believed, “will be really important for a lot of dads with daughters” as they are still “struggling” and “don’t know how to talk to their daughters about periods.”

Lin also mentioned that she was further impressed when William showed his support for sports clubs in the U.K. that are adapting new systems for female athletes to meet their needs. “We have very different biological cycles, and if we are using the same training schedules, that wouldn’t work,” she told the outlet. “He spoke about his passion for football and supporting female football players on this.”
